Graham Hudson.
I was Born in Manchester, brought up in Ardwick, I now live in a village just outside Halifax, up in the hills.
I am a Self-taught artist with a natural aptitude for drawing from early Childhood.
I cut my teeth in art by Drawing lifelike portraits of family members, copying photographs of celebrities and cartoon figures.
I began painting in in 1997 and took a whole year of daily “unsuccessful” attempts until one day there was a breakthrough and from that moment… I believed he could paint.
I continue to develop and hone my craft, using both traditional and contemporary materials and techniques, working to capture the ineffable spirit of the natural world.
I am privileged to work for a Manchester Homeless Charity… Mustard Tree.
I landed at Mustard Tree after 3 years on and off the streets and various hostels.
My role of Facilities Manager in which I manage and curate the spaces at our 3 sites, as well as overseeing Exhibitions and Events. I also Mange both Staff and Volunteers within facilities work streams. This follows on from my role at Mustard Tree as Creative Programs manager of which I was in post for around 10 years. This role gave me opportunities to work with local schools, community groups and corporate partners on various projects and programs.
My passion remains in painting and creativity.
I work from my studio based within Mustard Tree, where I continue to explore the world around us via my paintings. One of my drivers is expressing the unseen, the ineffable by way of the Abstract and Expressionism.
Layers of colour and texture permeate my paintings with the attempt to depict movement, growth and life, creating Unique and at times beautiful images.
When I’m not painting commissions or other undeniable subjects, I paint portraits of Jimi Hendrix, who, for me from the age of nine has been the single most important spiritual experience in my life! “That’s another Story.”
My work ranges from Chaotic and Explosive through to calm and meditative.
